The LAGOS JAZZ SERIES
Wednesday, November 24, 2010 @ 9:17 am
We've been remiss in not mentioning it prior to now, but we just completed work on a project we're very, very proud of: the first ever Lagos Jazz Series. QUIRK was the production lead on this remarkable project. Three days of open air concerts featuring jazz musicians from all over the world.

We survived a grueling production schedule to put together four shows that have been very, very well reviewed. The first was on Friday, November 5th when an unannounced rain storm right after sound check was complete drowned out our gorgeous out door stage and both plans A & B for the show. We went to plan C, moving speakers and sound, borrowing the hotel's upright piano and relocating the entire show to the hotel's restaurant, where we had a nice speakeasy vibe and wonderful music by Karen Patterson, Chinaza and the amazing Morrie Louden band.

On Saturday the 6th, we moved to the waterfront behind the fabulous Federal Palace Hotel, a gorgeous stage sponsored by Constant Capital that hosted Rwandan/Ugandan singer Somi, Nigeria's own Mike Aremu and our friends, the Morrie Louden band playing to about 300 people.

For the final day, we did not one but two shows, starting with a jazz breakfast at the German Consulate where the foreign minister made an appearance. Chinaza, Karen Patterson and Bez made that show a bright way to start the day. And we crowned it all with a really special show at Muri Okunola Park, a recently renovated park under Falomo Bridge in Victoria Island. There we created our most beautiful show and biggest stage and hosted an eclectic but remarkably fun line up of jazz artists; Somi, Salvador Sango, Ayetoro, South African guitarist Jimmy Dludlu and Bez. It was a blissful evening and one of our best reviewed shows to date. We'll share pictures and video as they come and look forward to seeing you all for the LJS next year.

Keziah Jones is IN!
Thursday, June 3, 2010 @ 4:53 pm
Mr. Jones is IN! For the fourth concert by Quirk and Glee!, we're escaping the rain and going indoors at Terrakulture. We're bringing the great Keziah Jones, one of the most exciting Nigerian musicians performing in or out of the country to town for a night of amazing bluesy, funky, soulful music.

Keziah Jones, born and raised in Nigeria, moved to France in the early 90's and has been making waves there ever since, returning to Lagos now and then to perform some of his highly original and very funky music for us. A guitarist without peer, Keziah is a dazzling performer with great stage presence and an easy rapport with the audience. He recently performed at the Jazz Hole where he totally charmed the audience and convinced us that we had to bring him back and give our favorite audience the chance to see him perform.

Our favorite new wonder group, Vincent Ezelle will open the show. Led by the soft yet rich voice of singer Chuma, Vincent Ezelle is a lush mix of soul, folk music and soft rock. Their dreamy single, ‘Signs and Wonders’ is causing a stir on the radio and Smooth FM’s already snapped them up for a live acoustic session. They’ll be performing a great set of songs about loving and living in Lagos.
